Adapting New Patterns Transforming Emotions
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is my primary approach in working with individuals, couples and families. My experience over the past forty years, in pastoral counseling and as a professional therapist, has led me to see that personal struggles and relational problems need more than new skills for problem solving and conflict management. Distressed individuals and couples become caught in negative patterns of emotional and behavioral responses with roots often originating in a larger relational context.
Rather than focus on the dysfunctions of individuals, I look for solutions from among an individual's or couple’s resources and strengths and serve as a guide while they learn to experience life and each other in new and more positive ways. Through the lens of EFT I especially target the retraining of reactive responses to and perceptions of issues or the other partner. My ultimate objective in counseling is to help create a renewed sense of connection and safety as individuals and couples work through the inevitable challenges life presents. I work with adults eighteen years and older.
